Standardise school charges, says Kayveas
KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry should standardise the costs parents have to contribute in relation to the running of schools as there are many complaints from the public.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk M. Kayveas, in making the call, said in line with the budget announcement last year, free education was to be made available to all Malaysians and implemented without conditions from this year. However, he said the extra costs should be standardised so that all schools collected the same amount."These costs, like the contributions for the school hall, sport activities and computers, should be justified and not lead to confusion," he said after attending the department's compassionate support programme organised with the Parent-Teacher Association of the Pusat Bandar Puchong (1) secondary school, yesterday. He urged the ministry to look into the matter as it affected the welfare of the people.
Kayveas was commenting on complaints by the public on the different amounts collected by schools.Earlier, he said he was glad to see there was a high level of commitment by PTAs and private organisations in supporting government efforts to improve the quality of education.
